Raised in Cincinnati, OH, Phil Norman is a dynamic and innovative performer. He began playing cello at the age of 10, and has since studied with Mary Beadell-DiBartolo at Northern Arizona University and Judith Glyde at University of Colorado where he recieved a Bachelors degree in music performance. He has also studied jazz with pianist Russell Schmidt, and violinist Glenn Basham.

As a performer, Phil has appeared on stage with David Hardy of the National Symphony Orchestra, composer and pianist, Carter Pann, and was the youngest ever member of the Flagstaff Symphony. An avid supporter of contemporary music, he has given the world premieres of curtis peel's solo cello suite "The Sawtooth Conversion", Dustin Rumsey's piece for cello and piano "Introspective", and Ryan Spencer's piano trio "This Quiet", among others. He has peformed concerts in the United States, Italy, and Australia, and in masterclasses for Natalia Gutman and Wendy Warner.

Phil currently performs with the band Rosh and One Eye Glass Broken, which often features. his string arrangements/compositions, Singer/songwriter Garret Suzelis, Travis Grode, Denver based band Still Light, Paul Russell, and a project of his own creation, Mockingbird. He also helps to produce and performs in The Blind Cafe, and award winning, community awareness concert and dinner in the pitch dark. He has also appeared as a guest with bands such as Elephant Revival, Heather Marie-Philip, Derek Hart, and Astoria Boulevard in New York. As a recording artist Phil is featured on One Eye Glass Broken's EP, Derek Hart's "Songs From A Cross (The Sea)", released on Wreckingball Wreckords, The Pirate Signal's "No Weak Heart Shall Prosper", Paul Russell's "Back to the Scene of our Beautiful Crime", and Travis Grode's "Rhubarb Garden".

While performing with One Eye Glass Broken, he began writing and performing his own solo cello music, which often features unusual and mixed meters, jazz and folk influences, and innovative pizzicato techniques. His compositions have been featured on Boulder's Radio 1190 and have won fourth place in the Indie International Songwriting Contest in the intsrumental category. Although classically trained, Phil is equally at home in almost any idiom, including improvising.
